Figurines of Wondrous Power is the latest Player’s Resource supplement for Pathfinder. It’s a collection of magical figurines ranging in price from 3,800 gp to 28,500 gp all with variable powers and advantages. Each one is fully presented with detailed descriptions, stats and alternate names for use within different cultural settings.
To set these figurines, when in animal form, apart from other figurine transformation, ideas such as quirks and command words are presented plus mechanics for creating intelligent and cursed creatures. The PDF is fully bookmarked and comes in at a mere 16 pages for easy and quick reference.
CONTENT
Figurines of Wondrous Power’s content is quite simple, but very expansive. The overview for each figurine is given and includes name, cost, activation, destruction and construction. The supplement then dives into the details of the figurines by presenting quirks for the figurines in animal form, ranging from physical traits to silly characteristics. Following this are alternative names for the figurines pertaining to different cultures ranging from desert or arctic to underground or underwater. After creating new names, mechanics are presented for creating intelligent or cursed figurines in animal form. This is a subtle but great way of giving these creatures character.
After presenting different options and mechanics for how the figurines look and/or act in animal form, each one is properly presented with descriptions, details and applicable stats. The supplement finishes up with saddles and barding allowing one to ride and protect their creature companions.
OVERALL
Once again Raging Swan Press has created another fantastic Pathfinder supplement and another fantastic Player’s Resource. Figurines of Wondrous Power not only focuses on a single, seemingly mundane grouping of items, but takes them to another level of game-play with new options, characteristics, names and other ways to add color. The illustrations are the perfect way of finishing off the supplement with visual representations of the figurines so that all player’s have a sense of what they look like.
RATINGS
Publication Quality: 10 out of 10
One thing that really sets this simple supplement apart from anything similar are the illustrations for each of the figurines. Each one does a wonderful job of representing the creature in figurine form and corresponds to its generic name and description. The supplement is extremely easy to follow and read and referencing should be quick.
Mechanics: 9 out of 10
The additional mechanics are simple but very usable. This includes the alternative names, rules for intelligent and cursed creatures, quirks and command words. While these are simple in nature, they are pertinent to giving the figurines of wondrous power a little more flavor and depth.
Value Add: 10 out of 10
If you’re looking to use a figurine of wondrous power within your adventure or campaign, this is a valuable supplement to have. Besides the presented stats, descriptions are included for speed, combat, carrying load and other various uses. Adding to the content of the figurines is information for riding (saddles) and protection (barding). Not only can you use the figurines in creature form for various deeds, but you can utilize them as an integral part of the storyline and even repeat appearances.

Raging Swan Press creates many great supplements with simplicity and focus. They take seemingly mundane things and turn them into something fantastic with depth and character. While the supplement is limited in its capacity, Figurines of Wondrous Power does an amazing job of bringing new options and understanding to everything presented within.
