A Beacon of Hope is a 2-piece supplement forĀ  Transformers Roleplaying Game. The first piece is a GM Screen, much like most GM screens published for other games. It includes great looking artwork and really all the rules you need. The second piece is an adventure supplement of what really is an introductory style adventure.

Formalities done!

When I first picked up Transformers Roleplaying Game to devour its pages, I was both excited and apprehensive to see how a role-playing game could be created out of one of my favorite childhood cartoons. The game was not as I was expecting, but rather created mechanics that exceeded those expectations. Creating a game where you play a well-known Autobot could become very redundant and possibly not last too long. But that’s not the route that was taken; instead, this game creates new Autobots and provides them with a large amount of character development and improvement that keeps things exciting throughout a lengthy campaign. The longer you player, the cooler you get and the more you become those iconic Transformers. But alas, there was one major problem. The adventure included in the core rulebook.

The adventure included in the core rulebook was a poor representation of a game to be played for new characters. A Beacon of Hope resolves this issue with an adventure that does demonstrate what a game would be like for new characters. The trick is, in the Transformers Roleplaying Game, you start as a peon; a literal nobody amongst Autobots who aims to rise to the top and become one of those iconic robot heroes. But when you start, you are have the capability of a common foot soldier with no chance of standing toe to toe with one of the iconic Decepticons. Decepticons are always up to no good, and they have little foot soldiers who run interference to allow their superiors to do what they need to do. At character creation, you are meant to square off against those foot soldiers so that your iconic Autobots don’t have to worry about interference and can take on the iconic Decepticons. It’s like being an ally in an epic fantasy game, fighting to make a name for yourself. From here, you can take on stronger and stronger foes and build yourself to become equal to our favorite Transformers from childhood.

Honestly, this adventure would have been a superior one to include in the core rulebook. But it wasn’t, making this GM Screen and adventure a must-have for all GMs.
