A Legend Reborn – Dragonbane Digitally Released Today

“As sure as night follows day, the time will come again when dragons and demons fight for power over humanity, nature, and the eternal mysteries.”

Stockholm, Sweden (April 17, 2023) — A legend is reborn. Free League Publishing today digitally released the new fantasy RPG Dragonbane the new edition of Sweden’s first and biggest tabletop RPG Drakar och Demoner, recently voted one of the most anticipated RPGs of 2023 at EN World.

The game is now available to pre-order via the Free League website with immediate access to the complete PDF package, ahead of the boxed edition release this fall. The game is also available at DrivethruRPG.

The Dragonbane core set includes the complete Rules book, an Adventures book with no less than eleven adventures connected into an epic campaign, five pre-generated characters, over 70 custom cards for treasure, adventures, initiative, and more, and the beautiful map of the Misty Vale setting, created by the cartographer Francesca Baerald.

Dragonbane, the reimagined version of the classic Swedish fantasy RPG full of magic, mystery, and adventure, was funded in just 4 minutes and raised more than $700k and unlocked 22 stretchgoals during the Kickstarter campaign last fall.

The lead game designer is Tomas Härenstam (Forbidden Lands, Mutant: Year Zero, ALIEN RPG, Blade Runner RPG), leading a team of adventure writers picked from the from the rich legacy of the Swedish RPG scene, from the 1980s until today. The lead illustrator for the game is the acclaimed Johan Egerkrans (Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying).

Drakar och Demoner originally launched in 1982 and has been Scandinavias largest and most beloved tabletop RPG brand ever since. Now, Free League celebrates its 40th anniversary with a new edition based on the heritage of decades of Swedish gaming, updated through the innovative game design for which Free League has been praised for worldwide.

Dragonbane invites players to experience fantasy adventures of all kinds. However, it is also a game with room for laughs and a pinch of silliness. Do not, however, mistake it for an easy game, for it will present formidable challenges for all adventurers. Free League call this playstyle “mirth and mayhem roleplaying” – great for long campaigns, but also perfect for a one-shot.

The mythology revolves around the eternal struggle between dragons and demons. The ruins of fallen kingdoms, that once worshipped either of these rival godlike creatures, beckon brave adventurers with the lure of hidden treasures.

The team of contributing writers include the elite of the Swedish tabletop RPG industry as well as acclaimed historical fiction author Niklas Natt och Dag (1793 The Wolf and the Watchman).
