OVERALL

So for the longest time, I have not been reviewing Paizo products, because I had been away from school and work. Now my reading time has been increased due to my recent college graduation. I have had the time to get caught up on my reading and reviews. So what other book should I have started with than this one!

This book is a great book that talks about all things good in Pathfinder. Although mechanically I would have liked a little more, this is a book that definitely wins for those who are trying to better understand alignments and good things in the community.

RATINGS

Publication Quality: 10 out of 10
The layout is clean and easy to work with. When you download it, you don’t get a light edition like most Paizo products, but the layout is still easy to read, and doesn’t slow down e-readers down. The font in print is a little smaller than I would like it, but if you have a digital version, that’s nothing the zoom button cannot fix.

Mechanics: 7 out of 10
So the thing about the Player Companion line, is that it’s one of two things: a “crunch” book, with lots of new goodies, items, feats and spells. And the other is where there is more “fluff” where it’s more talking about abstract things such as situational conditions and events in a story/campaign/etc./

This book is more along the lines of “fluff” related items. There are some new feats, and a few spells and items, but nothing that makes this book stand out in the lines of new things you can add to your campaigns.

Value Add: 10 out of 10
As I stated in the last section, this book is more “fluff” than it is “crunch”. The fluff in question makes up for a lot of the lack of new goodies. The majority of this book talks a lot about alignment and what a Neutral Good, Chaotic Good and Lawful Good player should be in terms of ideals and how they should behave. Although there have been many people who have tackled the topic in the past, it is nice to see a simplified version. Not only that, but they give great examples of those who would be in those categories concerning alignment. (Mine personally would be “The Mediator)

The book also talks about alignment violations and the possibilities of redemption and atonement for players. Which is a nice change of pace from a lot of other systems. Now granted, your actual interactions and what your GM sets up may vary, but it is a nice little guideline for those who may be new to dealing with alignment issues.

Overall: 9 out of 10
Player Companion: Champions of Purity is a very nice addition to your collection. I highly recommend this book if you are a person who regularly plays good-aligned characters. There may not be a whole secret treasure trove of new good aligned items, spells or feats, but it’s still worth it’s weight in gold if you are looking for more detailed information about alignments, and the life of the good-aligned.
