Curse of Undeath is the latest set for the Dungeon Command miniatures skirmish war game. Featuring a collection of undead, this set has no shortage of great looking miniatures and cards flavored to fit the undead theme. As with the other sets, Curse of Undeath serves as a standalone set able to be combined with any of the other three, or even another copy of its own (although I wouldn’t recommend that as the miniatures are the same).

OVERALL

Being a fan of the necromantic ways, I may be slightly biased toward Curse of Undeath. However, when you look at the progression of standalone sets for Dungeon Command, each one is a fantastic complete set with excellent flavor and beautiful miniatures. Moreover, Curse of Undeath has new cards that are flavored for the undead theme, just like the goblin set. Additionally, as an ongoing added bonus, the miniatures have cards for adding them to the D&D board games.

RATINGS

Publication Quality: 9 out of 10
Curse of Undeath follows the fantastic quality of its predecessors, especially the miniatures. These undead miniatures have a great muted coloring to match their necromantic theme. They range from skeletons and zombies to a vampire and a lich along with a host of cards to match. The box is beautiful as always, and the only thing that could tip this up to 10 is the color selection. The paint scheme on these is quite simple, almost too simple, meaning they don’t standout that much on the tabletop. Yes it matches the undead theme, but they could have been done a little better. The battlemap tiles are excellent with the sarcophagi on the dungeon side and the burial site on the wilderness side.

Mechanics: 10 out of 10
The cards are mechanically very similar to the other sets. However, they are not only themed well for the set, but they have themed artwork to match. The cards definitely look like the belong with this set and make a great addition to Dungeon Command.

Desire to Play: 10 out of 10
Another great faction for Dungeon Command and one you can really immerse yourself in with the wide array of undead (this isn’t just a skeleton crew). It would be interested to see how well the game scales if all four factions are used.

Overall: 10 out of 10
I love the direction of Dungeon Command, but I’m interested in seeing how Wizards of the Coast expands on the game with the continued addition of new factions. I don’t mean what new factions are they going to add, but how are they going to balance the game when there’s more than two (or even three) players and if they plan on offering small expansions such as new cards, leaders, or heroes. That will definitely have an effect on future reviews.
