A Guide to Dream Travel is a storytelling game book designed for parents and their children. Unlike the other two in the Enigma series so far, Dream Travel takes an old-school approach to the game by presenting the content as d20 random tables. However, it is a storytelling book first and an Enigma game book second, and for the latter, it is only a game book in the sense that you can make a game with it to create the most extravagant story ever.
The more prominent side is the storytelling aspect. Dream Travel guides the wearied parent through a series of prompts to be given to your children as a way of creating an exciting story to tell at bedtime. The d20 random tables allow you to use the book over and over again, creating a new story every time. After the random tables is a series of prompts without random table answers, allowing the child to truly explore his or her creativity.
There are five chapters that lead you through many aspects of storytelling, but always leaving the true creativity in the hands of the storyteller. The parent just presents a lead, and then the storyteller takes over. The book also includes some cute artwork with a theme clearly aimed at younger elementary school and preschool children. However, if you really want to, a GM could use this to create aspects of his or her homebrewed adventures, especially when the need arises on the spot!
